Why this work matters

Hunger doesn't take Tuesdays off.

One in nine of our neighbors skipped a meal last week so someone else in the house could eat. These are working families, retired couples, kids walking home to empty kitchens. Quiet hunger, not headline hunger.

The empty fridge

The Thursday before payday looks the same in too many homes: condiments, a half-loaf of bread, and a parent doing math on what counts as dinner.

The single parent

Working two jobs, splitting groceries between three growing kids, and skipping their own lunch four days a week to make the budget stretch.

The latchkey kid

School lunch was the real meal. Summer break means counting down until September, with a bag of chips and a sibling to share it with.

How Harvest Table works

From your gift to their kitchen table, in four steps.

We are not a generic food bank. We run a weekly cycle: source, prep, deliver, repeat. Same neighborhoods, same drivers, same Tuesday. Trust gets built when the truck shows up on time.

01

You donate

One-time gift, monthly pledge, or sponsor a family for a year. Every dollar is tracked to a Tuesday.

02

We source

Bulk wholesale buys, grocery rescue partnerships, and farm-direct produce — every dollar buys $4 of food.

03

We prepare

Tuesday mornings, 40 volunteers in the kitchen — boxing groceries, cooking hot meals, packing senior trays.

04

We deliver

22 routes, 12 drivers, same families every week. Food at the door by 4 p.m. — before homework, before bedtime.

A family's six months

What changes when Tuesday is covered.

One family. Six months apart. Same kitchen table.

Before

"I was rotating which kid got the full plate. My oldest started skipping breakfast on his own — said he wasn't hungry. He was hungry. He just didn't want to be the reason his sister wasn't."

After 6 months

"Tuesdays are a real meal now, and that frees up enough that the other days don't feel like a math problem. My son eats breakfast again. He grew an inch and a half. I get to be his mom, not his accountant."

What we run

Six programs, one mission.

Each program runs on a different schedule but shares the same kitchen, the same drivers, and the same promise: show up on time.

Weekly Meals

Tuesday groceries plus one hot meal — sized for the household, every single week, year-round.

Kids Lunch Program

Summer-break sack lunches plus weekend Power Packs during the school year. 340 kids enrolled.

Senior Delivery

Door-to-door for 180 elders who can't drive. Friendly knock, real conversation, two hot meals a week.

Holiday Baskets

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter — full meal kits with everything for a sit-down family table.

Emergency Hampers

72-hour food box for crisis situations — job loss, hospital discharge, fire displacement. Same-day delivery.

Mobile Pantry

Saturday route through rural pockets and trailer communities — same selection, no transport needed.

Voices from the table

What it sounds like, six months in.

Portrait of Theresa

"The first Tuesday, I cried in the kitchen for ten minutes after the driver left. Not because of the food. Because someone showed up on time, for me, without making me ask."

Theresa · Mountain View

Portrait of Daniel

"My kids eat real food now. Not whatever was on sale, not crackers for dinner. Vegetables they actually like, fruit twice a day. That changes a kid."

Daniel · Riverside

Portrait of Joseph

"I'm 81. My wife passed two years ago. Tuesday and Friday, the same young woman knocks and stays for five minutes. The food matters, but I am being honest — the knock matters more."

Joseph · Eastbridge

Portrait of Renata

"I went from food bank to volunteer in about a year. I sort on Saturdays now. The dignity of giving back is its own kind of meal. They gave me that on purpose."

Common questions

Before you give, here's what donors usually ask.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Harvest Table is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 47-1830294). You will receive an itemized receipt for every gift over $5, and an annual summary in January for your tax records.
Where does my money actually go?
98 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to food sourcing, kitchen costs, and delivery. The remaining 2 cents covers payment processing. Our admin and fundraising overhead is funded separately through a small group of named operating sponsors, so 100% of public donations stay in programs.
Can I donate food instead of money?
Yes, but cash gifts go further. Our wholesale partners give us a 4-to-1 multiplier on bulk dry goods. If you want to donate food directly, our drop-off window is Saturdays 9am to 1pm and we keep a current need list on this page.
How do I volunteer?
We have four volunteer tracks: Tuesday kitchen prep (4 hours), Tuesday delivery driving (3 hours, own vehicle), Saturday sorting (2 hours), and admin support (remote, flexible). Sign up on the volunteer page and a coordinator will reach out within 48 hours.
Do you serve my area?
Our weekly delivery covers Riverside, Eastbridge, Mountain View, and the unincorporated rural pockets between them — roughly a 40-mile radius. If you are outside this area and need help, we maintain a referral list of partner pantries on our resources page.
Who qualifies to receive food?
Anyone who needs it. We do not means-test, ask for ID, or require paperwork. If you are sitting at the kitchen table doing math on the groceries, you qualify. Sign-up takes one minute and your information stays confidential.
Can my business partner with you?
Yes — we work with grocery stores on weekly rescue pickups, with restaurants on prepared-meal contributions, and with local businesses on employee match programs. Email partnerships@harvesttable.example and our partnerships lead will book a call.
How can I see your financials?
Our 990, audited financials, and annual impact report are published every March on our transparency page. We are GuideStar Platinum rated and Charity Navigator 4-star rated as of last year.
One last ask

Will you set a Tuesday plate?

$50 a month covers a family of four, every week, for the rest of the year. That's one quiet decision, made once, that shows up at the door 52 times.
