Scent built
with restraint.

Voile is a Parisian perfumery house of twelve fragrances, three ranges, and one hundred millilitres of patience per bottle. We do not produce a new composition every season; we produce one when it is finished.

Issue Note Volume II of the Voile archive collects four years of composition work, three apprenticeships at Roure, and the patient refusal to ship anything before its time. Set in Cormorant and Inter Tight.

§ 02 — On restraint

Why twelve, and not two hundred.

The modern perfumery house produces, on average, eleven new compositions per year. We have produced twelve in twenty-six. The arithmetic is the manifesto: we believe a fragrance is closer to a building than to a season. It does not improve when hurried, and it does not survive the discount rack.

The library at Voile was not designed as a catalogue. It was designed as a vocabulary. Each fragrance is a complete sentence in that vocabulary; the three ranges — perfume, body, candle — are the three voices in which that sentence can be spoken. We do not blend body milks that match the perfume. We compose, separately and patiently, the body's own quieter answer.

Restraint, for us, is not asceticism. It is the courage to leave the gardenia out, to let the cedar sit unaccompanied for a full half-hour on skin, to print a dossier on uncoated stock and to ship it inside a recyclable box that does not pretend to be anything other than what it is.

This is a quieter house than the perfumery counters of the rue Saint-Honoré. It will remain a quieter house. We have no plans to grow Volume II beyond the twelve compositions currently named — and every plan to keep their quality at the standard at which they were first met.

§ 03 — The library

Three ranges,
twelve fragrances.

Each range is composed around a single accord. Within a range, fragrances share a structural note so that any two will layer cleanly on skin. Prices range from $78 to $245.

Voile perfume bottle photographed on linen, cedar accord
Range No. 01 — Brume

Perfume,
around cedar.

Five eaux de parfum at the eau de parfum / extrait boundary. Each composition rests on aged Atlas cedar.

The Brume range is the founding voice of the house — five compositions built between 2022 and 2026, each rested for no fewer than thirty-six months before release. Bitter orange against smoke, neroli against leather, iris against dry tobacco. Six to nine hours of presence on skin.

Range No. 02 — Lait

Body,
around neroli.

Three quieter compositions for the hour after bathing. Cold-pressed almond, neroli leaf, a trace of iris.

The Lait range was not designed to match the perfumes; it was designed to listen to them. The compositions are gentler — concentrated at three percent — and built on a cold-pressed almond base that we press in small batches in the Provençal mill of a third-generation producer.

Voile candle in beeswax, vetiver and tobacco
Range No. 03 — Cire

Candle,
around vetiver.

Four candles in beeswax and rice-bran wax. A single hand-spun cotton wick. Forty hours of burn.

Cire is the youngest range — Volume II — and the only one of the three composed by Augustine Lévy rather than by Camille Voile herself. The structural note throughout is Haitian vetiver, anchored variously by dry tobacco, fig leaf, smoked oud, and lapsang. Each candle is hand-poured in batches of forty.

Founding perfumer

Camille Voile

Composition · Brume · Lait

Camille founded the house in the autumn of 2020, after eighteen years inside the composition studios of Givaudan and a four-year apprenticeship under Jean-Claude Ellena. She wrote the founding brief for Brume No. 01 on the back of a Métro ticket during a strike, and she still keeps the ticket pressed into the first page of the house ledger.

She composes alone, by hand, on uncoated stock. The studio she works in is the same one in which she trained — six metres long, two windows, a single workbench made by her grandfather in 1948.

Trained at Roure, Grasse — 2002 – 2006

Co-founder · Cire

Augustine Lévy

Composition · Cire · Atelier programme

Augustine joined Camille in 2023, having spent fourteen years building the wax and candle programme at a Provençal estate. The four Cire compositions are his alone; the atelier visiting programme — and the relationships with each of the eight stockists — are also his.

He composes more quickly than Camille and is the house's reluctant administrator. He keeps the ledger, the supplier contacts, and the eighty-page document we send to every new stockist.

Trained at ISIPCA, Versailles — 2008 – 2010

Lifetime relationship

§ 09 — Frequently asked

Eight honest answers.

For more particular questions about composition, atelier visits, or stockist enquiries, write to us directly. We answer every letter, in order, within two working days.

01

How long does a Voile fragrance last on skin?

Six to nine hours, depending on individual skin chemistry, the time of day, and the season. Voile concentrations sit between eau de parfum and extrait: long enough to last a working day, short enough to remain personal — never a public announcement.

02

Can Voile fragrances be layered?

Yes — and the library is composed for it. The three ranges share three crossing accords: cedar (Brume), neroli (Lait), vetiver (Cire). Any two compositions within a single range will share at least one structural note. Across ranges, we recommend pairing a Lait composition under a Brume — never two Brume compositions at once.

03

Which fragrance families are represented?

Woody, floral leather, hesperidic, smoke, and a single solifore (Brume No. 04, iris). We do not produce gourmand or aquatic compositions; nor do we currently produce a chypre, though one is in composition for Volume III.

04

Are the compositions suitable for sensitive skin?

All twelve compositions are IFRA Category 4 compliant. Full allergen disclosure — twenty-six declared materials under the EU Cosmetics Regulation — is printed on every bottle and listed in the dossier shipped with each order. Patch testing is recommended for any new fragrance; samples make this straightforward.

05

Do you offer samples?

Yes. The library may be sampled in 5ml decants — twenty applications, sufficient to wear a composition for several days and through more than one season. A discovery set of three decants is $48, with the full amount credited toward the purchase of any full bottle.

06

How is a fragrance gifted?

Each bottle ships in a recyclable archival box with a hand-signed dossier, a single sheet of cotton tissue, and a slim envelope for a written note. Personal inscription on the dossier is available at the Paris atelier by appointment; gift cards are available in any denomination.

07

Do you offer wholesale?

Voile maintains relationships with eight stockists across four continents. New stockist applications are reviewed twice per year, in March and September, by Camille and Augustine personally. We do not work with distributors or department-store conglomerates; we do not appear on third-party marketplaces.

08

How do I visit the atelier?

The Paris atelier — 14 rue des Archives, in the 4ème arrondissement — receives visitors by appointment only, Tuesday through Friday. A consultation runs ninety minutes, includes a walk-through of the full library, and is offered without charge. Write to atelier@voile.example to request a date.

§ 10 — In closing

Schedule a consultation.

Ninety minutes at the atelier, or a 5ml decant set to your door. Either is a quieter way to begin than a counter at a department store. Both are offered without charge or obligation.
