02 Why owners come to us

You’ve already lived through one bad install. You won’t live through another.

The contractor told you 18 SEER. The unit they shipped was 14. The ductwork they promised to rework was patched with foil tape. Two summers later, the master bedroom is still seven degrees warmer than the kitchen and the energy bills haven’t budged. We hear some version of this on almost every consultation.

“The previous installer cut three corners I couldn’t see and one I could. Atelier opened the walls, redesigned the trunk, and the whole house finally feels like one home instead of four micro-climates.” — C. Lee, Hillside renovation

We don’t do volume. We don’t do same-day truck-roll. We do one consultation at a time, one design at a time, one install at a time — and we own the result for as long as you own the house.

03 What makes us different

Three commitments that separate a studio from a service company.

01

Design before equipment

Every project begins with a Manual J load calc, a Manual D duct design, and a walkthrough with the owner. We size for your actual house — not a rule-of-thumb based on square footage. Most homes we touch had the wrong tonnage before we arrived.

02

Inverter-first, always

We install Daikin Fit and Carrier Greenspeed inverter systems exclusively. Quieter, more efficient at part-load, and they don’t cycle on-and-off like a window unit. Your home maintains temperature within 0.5°F instead of swinging 4°F.

03

One dedicated service manager

You don’t call a dispatch queue. You call Daniel, or you call Priya. They know your system, your home, your last visit, and your preference for morning appointments. Same person picks up year five as year one.

04 How we work together

The five-step studio process.

i.

Discovery consultation

A 60-minute walkthrough of your home with the founder. We listen first — what works, what doesn’t, what you wish you’d known last time. No charge, no obligation, no pressure to commit.

Complimentary60-minute visit
ii.

Engineering & design

Full Manual J load calculation, Manual D ductwork design, equipment selection, and a written specification document delivered within two weeks. Yours to keep regardless of whether we install.

$1,200 design feecredited to install
iii.

Owner review

We walk you through every system choice, every duct route, every register. You see the heat-loss spreadsheet, the equipment sheets, and the install timeline. No surprises after this point.

iv.

White-glove installation

Floor protection on every surface. Daily site cleanup. A lead installer assigned for the duration. Photographs at every stage. Most installs complete in 4-6 working days; major retrofits 2-3 weeks.

Commissioning & ownership handoff

Full commissioning report (refrigerant charge, airflow, static pressure, room-by-room temperature deltas), your owner’s binder, and an introduction to your dedicated service manager for the next decade.

Year-onetune-up included
05 Ownership membership

The Atelier Stewardship program.

A residential mechanical system lives for 18-25 years if it’s commissioned correctly and maintained properly. Stewardship is how we make sure yours does.

Two technical visits a year, priority access to your dedicated service manager, and the lifetime workmanship warranty stays active as long as you stay enrolled.

What our owners say.

We’d had three contractors out before Atelier. They were the only ones who measured before they quoted. The install finished on the date they promised, the house finally feels balanced, and I haven’t had to think about the system since.

“The Manual J they ran showed our previous unit was 1.5 tons oversized — which is why every room cycled. The new system runs almost continuously at low speed and the house is finally quiet. Worth every dollar.”

“Daniel has been our service manager since 2021. He knows our system, knows our home, knows that I prefer texts to calls. That continuity is worth more than the equipment itself.”

07 Our promise

If we touched it, we own it — for as long as you own the house.

Every install Atelier completes carries a lifetime workmanship warranty. Anything we built — ductwork, electrical, line sets, condensate management, equipment placement — is ours to fix, no charge, for the life of the install.

Stack that with the manufacturer warranties on the equipment (10-12 years parts on Daikin and Carrier inverter systems) and your investment is genuinely protected for the next two decades.

08 Questions

Things owners ask before booking.

Do you handle repairs, or only full system installs?

Both, though our heart is in design-and-install for renovation and new-construction projects. For existing Atelier-installed systems, service is included for Stewardship members and billed at $185/hour for non-members. We don’t take service calls on systems we didn’t install — the diagnostic time on unknown installations isn’t fair to either of us.

What does a typical project cost?

Our average residential install (3,000-4,500 sq ft, full system replacement with some ductwork modification) runs $24,000 to $58,000. New construction and major retrofits with full duct redesign run higher. Every project starts with a $1,200 design phase, which is credited toward the install if you proceed. No surprises, full quote in writing before any equipment is ordered.

How long does the consultation-to-completion process take?

Typically 6-12 weeks from first consultation to commissioning. Two weeks for design, two weeks for owner review and equipment lead time, then 4-21 days on-site depending on scope. We don’t do emergency replacements — if your system has died and you need cooling tomorrow, we’ll refer you to one of two trusted service partners.

Why don’t you publish prices on the website?

Because every house is different, and a price without a load calc is fiction. The contractors who quote $7,499 over the phone are the same ones who deliver a unit that cycles every six minutes and shaves three years off its life. The $1,200 design fee is the price of an honest answer.

Are you really inverter-only? What if I want a traditional single-stage system?

We respectfully decline. Single-stage AC systems are the last decade’s technology — they cycle, they’re noisy, they can’t dehumidify well at part-load, and they wear out faster. We’d rather not install something we wouldn’t put in our own homes.

What credentials does your team hold?

All our installers are NATE-certified (Heat Pump and AC Service specializations), EPA 608 Universal, and OSHA-30. Our design lead is a licensed mechanical engineer (P.E.). We’re a Daikin Premier Partner and a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. State contractor license #HVAC-148229, fully bonded and insured.
